If you’re looking for your next beach destination for 2023 and don’t want to travel too far, Tripadvisor has you covered, naming Maine’s Ogunquit Beach among the best beaches in the United States for this year.
The popular southern Maine beach rose in the rankings to make the top 10 for the U.S. this year, placing No. 9 as a part of the travel site’s “Best of the Best Beaches for 2023″ within its 2023 “Travelers’ Choice Awards.”
Tripadvisor said in a news release that Ogunquit Beach had previously ranked No. 23 in 2022, but “climbed dramatically” based on positive reviews the beach destination received over the course of the past year.

“Travelers rave in particular about the clean sand and ability to walk for miles,” Tripadvisor said.
The travel site compiled its awards lists after analyzing the “millions of reviews” travelers worldwide gave on beaches in the U.S. and internationally in the 12-month period between Jan. 1, 2022 and Dec. 31, 2022.
Tripadvisor also looked to base their awards on the quality and quantity of reviews and ratings for the beaches from Tripadvisor travelers.

The company said it helps hundreds of millions of people with trip planning each month, citing internal data, and said it is the “world’s largest travel guidance platform.”
Other U.S. beaches to make the top 10 were destinations in Hawaii, Florida, Georgia and on the West Coast in California and Oregon, with Ka’anapali Beach in Maui taking the top spot for 2023.
Ogunquit Beach was the only New England beach to be named for Tripadvisor’s U.S. list.

For its international list, Tripadvisor named beaches in far-flung destinations such as those in Brazil, Australia, the Caribbean and even Iceland.
